NEW PORTABLE RUGGED COMPUTER TAKES FAULT TOLERANCE
VIDEO EDITING STUDIO ON THE ROAD
08 October 2002 10:17:38
City of Industry, CA– Broadax Systems, Inc. proudly introduces
the i-Link Workstation, the latest addition to their dynamic hardy multi-slot
lunchbox workstations. This portable, rugged computer system is designed
specifically for high data throughput movie and video editing, yet it
still meets the hardy nature of fault tolerant/resilient server computing.
The i-Link portable workhorse is a high end workstation with dual Intel
P3 or AMD K7 processors, GeForce 4 Ti 4200 or Ti 4600 graphic cards, up
to 4GB DDRAM, full RAID compatible drives, USB 1.1/2.0 and IEEE1394 FireWire
interfaces. Prepackaged with Microsoft Movie Maker and other leading editing
software, the i-Link is a rugged mobile editing studio that can be used
in harsh outdoor environments for any applications where durability and
dependability is demanded. This field tested durable computer is ideal
for many personal, commercial and government applications including field
editing of music videos, weddings, location shots, commercials, personal
videos, independent films, field tests videos, as well as scientific expeditions.
Military applications include military videos and intelligence, war games,
training, and simulation exercises.
The i-Link is a uniquely designed ruggedized computer, with an all-aluminum
luggable chassis configured with all the tools necessary for in-field
and in-house editing of digital-video. Four 32-bit and two 64-bit PCI
slots offer users the flexibility to meet today’s requirements with
the scalability for tomorrow’s applications. Its FireWire and USB
(1.1 and 2.0) interfaces as well as built-in 10/100 LAN directly links
the i-Link with most common professional and amateur digital camcorders
while an optional, inexpensive adapter imports video footage from older
analog camcorders. With its add on capability, the i-link offers universal
adapter connectivity for mobile computing applications.
The i-Link’s unique toolbox design also satisfies the demands of
rigorous activity of field environments with advancing technology and
expandability for easy migration. The system can be upgraded effectively
through four 32-bit and two 64-bit PCI slots and three removable, hot
swappable RAID 0, 1 and 5 compatible hard drives, a CD-R, CD-RW, or DVD
drive. The RAID 0 implements a striped disk array where the video input
is broken down into blocks and each block is written to a separate disk
drive. This greatly enhances streaming video performance by spreading
the I/O load across many channels and drives to deliver full studio-like
experience.
A 15.1" 1024x768 XGA or 15.4" 1280x1024 SXGA TFT active matrix
LCD is clearly visible in bright sunlight or drenching rain. A NEMA-rated
fold down and full-size detachable keyboard make the unit easy to deploy
and use in any challenging field conditions. The all-aluminum lunchbox
computer style case with rubber-protected corners easily handles the rough
treatment of daily field use.

Fully load with Movie Maker and Windows XP, dual processors, 4 GB of
DDRAM and one 20 GB removable drive, the i-Link starts at around $4395.
