PORTABLE RUGGED WORKSTATION FIELDS THE MOST ARDUOUS
OF ENVIRONMENTS COLD, HOT, WET AND ROUGH TERRAINS
03 January 2003 10:32:00
Broadax Systems, Inc. wishes to introduce the FieldGo M5B14, a dynamic
rugged multi-slot lunchbox workstation and a finalist in the NASA TECH
Briefs Product of the Year 2002 search. This portable workhorse PC has
the power of a server computer and the mobility of notebook computing
and can be deployed into the dirty, arduous, and demanding environments
of military and aviation applications and scientific laboratories and
expeditions.
On the go, in the field, in any environment, the FieldGo FieldGo M5’s
all-Aluminum, ruggedized chassis provides 10 full length slots for ISA
and/or PCI application cards or single board computers (SBC) using either
AMD’s Athlon, Duron Slot A, Socket A compatible processors or Intel’s
Pentium® III, Dual Pentium® III 1GHz processors for up to 2GB
main memory with PC133 ECC SDRAM making it one powerful system.
The unique design incorporates the demands of rigorous activity of field
environments with advancing technology and needed expandability for easy
migration to upgrade the system easily and effectively with the 10 slot
passive backplane compatible with either ISA/PCI or mix of both bus type
cards. The use of a multi-slot system allows the flexibility to meet differing
requirements of applications just as the field situations need for data
acquisition, testing and other purposes by simply inserting or hot swapping
cards. This feature also allows for on the go use of commercial off the
shelf (COTS) cards further making the FieldGo M5 ideal for cost-effective
solutions. The COTS internal architecture of this portable PC makes for
easy maintenance, configuration, and upgrades all in this rugged military
computer.
Working in bright sunlight or drenching rain, the 14” or 15”
active TFT LCD sunlight readable screen and NEMA rated fold down design,
full size detachable keyboard with mechanical keys make the FieldGo M5
easy to deploy and use for quick setup and easy operation in challenging
field conditions. The all-aluminum case with rubber-protected corners
easily handles the rough handling of daily field use.
The FieldGo M5B14 also uses a hidden 3.5” HDD for up to 100.0 GB,
slim floppy drive and slim CD-ROM. Its two side and rear access panels
make it easy to interchange replace cards with simple insertion. Two filtered
ventilation fans, add-on card retention system, optional sealed membrane
keyboard, 250W power supply and 20 – 22 lbs. Overall weight round
out the system. For battlefield management, command and control, or smart
munitions deployment, the M5B14 is the ideal multi-platform solution.
